Rio de Janeiro to the World: The DJ Who Made Brazil's Culture Dance
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Maz has spent the better part of a decade turning the warmth, colour and rhythmic complexity of Brazilian culture into something that works just as well under the lights of a European superclub as it does at a beach festival on the Brazilian coast. His remix of Luedji Luna's "Banho de Folhas" became the best-selling Brazilian electronic release on Beatport across 2022 and 2023, while "Amana" reached number one on the overall Beatport chart — a milestone that announced him as far more than a local phenomenon. He has since topped the Beatport charts five times in total, performed at Coachella, Tomorrowland Belgium, Ultra Europe, Sziget, Rock in Rio and Lollapalooza, and accumulated over 337 million streams across platforms.
Together with Antdot he co-founded Dawn Patrol in 2020, a label that quickly became one of the most talked-about imprints in Afro and organic house worldwide. Their collaborative tracks — "Povoada", "Corpo e Canção", "Run" and "Jolie Fille" — are now dancefloor staples from Ibiza to São Paulo. His signing with the Wasserman agency in 2023 placed him alongside Dom Dolla, Fred again and Honey Dijon as one of the most anticipated names of his generation. His first official Hï Ibiza residency in 2026 marks the full circle of a journey that began in Brazil and has quietly taken over the world.
