Scotland's Underground Export: The Man Who Built a Scene From Scratch
Ewan McVicar started out as a schoolteacher in Ayr, Scotland — a town with no underground scene to speak of — and decided to build one himself. He launched his own night, TEN, at a local venue, booked acts the town had never seen, and eventually walked away from teaching to pursue music full time, much to his mother's dismay. The work he put in on those obscure floors eventually led to releases on Optimo, Unknown to the Unknown, Shall Not Fade and Patrick Topping's Trick label. Then, in 2021, "Tell Me Something Good" happened: a UK chart hit that earned DJ Mag's Track of the Year and BBC Radio 1's Electronic Track of the Year in the same breath, introducing him to a much wider audience without changing a thing about who he was.
Since then he has remixed The Chemical Brothers and Leftfield, collaborated with KETTAMA, Robert Owens and Inaya Day, and founded Pavilion Festival in his hometown of Ayr — bringing Carl Cox, Derrick Carter and other heavyweights to the Scottish coast. His Club Knuckles label, launched in 2025 as a pure creative platform, is the vehicle he's carrying into his most significant chapter yet: a full 23-week Friday night residency at Hï Ibiza, the world's number one club, for his first-ever full season on the island.
