Following the sell-out 16th Birthday bash in August, London legend’s Bobby & Steve return to Turnmills on Saturday 15th December just in time for Christmas and their winter Garage City Special, complete with all the festive trimmings. As you would expect, Bobby & Steve have put together a Christmas cracker of a line-up featuring the masterful Kenny Dope, one half of globally renowned DJ/Production outfit Masters at Work, plus all your favourite Garage City faces.
Garage City was one of the first parties in the UK to provide a platform for the world’s biggest house DJs and singers to showcase their talent, and to this day, the brand remains the leading purveyor on the UK’s soulful house scene. The likes of Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez, Frankie Knuckles, Murk, Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Ten City, Tony Humphries, Todd Terry, Adeva, Robert Owens, Terry Hunter, CJ Mackintosh and Terry Hunter are just some of the house music megastars who have spread their gospel beats at Garage City for the best part of two decades. Next up then, is a return to the decks from the one and only Kenny Dope…
Born in 1970, three-time Grammy nominated Kenny Dope is one of the most prolific artists of the modern music age, famed for fusing house, hip-hop, latin, jazz, soul and broken beats. Growing up in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park in the 80s, Kenny and his partner, Mike Delgado organised a series of neighbourhood parties under the Masters At Work alias, which were regularly attended by Brooklyn hero Todd Terry. In 1990 after an introduction by Terry, Kenny and DJ “Little Louie” Vega immediately hit it off and began a creative partnership appropriately dubbed Masters At Work. As the MAW sound became more pervasive in clubs, they became more sought after by artists and labels, eventually remixing and producing artists such as R. Kelly, Janet Jackson, Daft Punk, Barbara Tucker, India, Luther Vandross, BeBe Winans, George Benson and many, many more. Kenny’s breakthrough as a solo artist came with the recording of the breathtaking Bucketheads album in 1995, featuring the all-time classic “The Bomb! (These Sounds fall into my Mind)”, which received global chart-topping success. >From their, Kenny took a break from his solo career to focus on his collaborative work with Vega. The Nuyorican Soul album marked a particularly important moment for Kenny and his transition into one of America’s most important contemporary producers. For the last decade Kenny Dope has had his hands full, releasing literally thousands of tracks, remixing hundreds of singles, and globe trotting to DJ all over the world. Kenny has also established Kay-Dee Records with Scottish funk DJ legend Keb Darg, focusing on the re-issued of rare classic funk records. So whether its sitting behind the control board, playing to his followers, or searching for the next great re-release classic, the beat master known as Kenny Dope, will always continue to shine as the master at work. Garage City’s Xmas extravaganza will also see the return of Kenny to Turnmills for the first time in 3 years… so you can expect queues round the block for this one!!
Bobby & Steve will by joining the US hero in the main room, backed up by Garage City fave Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson. The soulful selection continues in T2 next door, where a host of residents past & present complete this huge night of house. Look out for sets from Chrissy T, Funkie P, Clemy Reily, Rude Boy Rupert, Craig Bartlett and Neil Pierce; whilst upstairs in the VIP Room, Chris Williams & Guests will be dropping Disco & Paradise Garage Classics as the Christmas party goes off with bang!!
Look out for special Xmas presents on the night, and oh, don’t forget your mistletoe – cos, on this evidence there should be a club full of sexy guys & gals getting down to the funkiest sounds around!!
