You better have your wits about ya folks, cos on Saturday 27th October Together presents Trick or Treat: The Halloween Rave and a devilishly wicked line-up to scare the heebie jeebies out of you! The geniunely haunted Turnmills (yes really!) will be putting its DJs to the slaughter as we bring you the mother of all dancefloor massacres split across 5 spooky spaces.
The hub of the action takes place in The Haunted House where big guns John Acquaviva and Etienne de Crecy will be dropping some electronic bombs around a special Halloween live show from Ed Banger’s ‘Hot(test) Chick’, Uffie backed up by partner in crime Feadz. John Acquaviva is the global techno pioneer who’s Acqua-holic party in Ibiza has become one of the island’s biggest new nights in recent years. He’s been immersed in clubland since the late 70’s, but more recently branched out beyond the core of DJing and production, to become instrumental in the discovery and launch of pioneering music technology - Finalscratch (DJ Tool) and Beatport.com (the worlds leading electronic music download service). Throw into the witches cauldron, two previous stand out sets at Together and John’s re-appearance should be something rather special. So too should be the return of Frenchmen Etienne de Crecy who trhows his own electronic weight behind this beast of a night. Etienne is part of the first wave of revolutionary French artists – together with Daft Punk and Air, who lined up the dots between electro, techno and house and brought this infectious sound to the musical forefront. Etienne’s Superdiscount project (together with Alex Gopher) is the stuff of legend and back in the day he formed one half of Motorbass with another iconic Frenchman - Philippe Zdar from Cassius. So from France’s old skool to the nu skool; taking over from Etienne will be the unqiuely brilliant Uffie and Feadz. Uffie is the American-born, Paris-raised starlet signed to Busy P’s legendary Ed Banger Records label. ‘Pop the Glock, Ready to Uff’ and ‘Hot Chick’ are already dancefloor anthems - combining her ‘anti-flow’ delivery with f*cked up electro beats, and she’s come up trumps again guest vocalling on ‘Tthhee Ppaarrttyy’, taken from Justice’s debut LP. With a cult reputation for her explosive live shows, expect the unexpected from her main room appearance, supported by fellow Ed Banger DJ Feadz. Completing the cloak and dagger treatment will be Together’s lenchmen Justin Robertson and Anil Chawla. Justin is of the course the iconic acid house innovator, whose currently causing a ruckus away from the decks with his new side project – Thee Earls, his quirky electronic band (with JR on vocals!) Anil Chawla meanwhile is contiuning his progression through the ranks, with an artist album set to drop on Global Underground early next year.
T2 turns into the Torture Chamber for the night with hot new residents for 2008 the Streetlife DJs hosting ‘Streetlife Sessions’ in the small club-within-a-club. Stew & Louis aka Streetlife DJs will be the biggest new breakthrough artists of 2008, mark our words, and we can’t to kick off this exciting new exclusive residency!! Their original productions are immense, their Podcast/DJ mixes are off the scale and their remixes (for peeps like Groove Armada, CSS, Ash, The Cazals) are as hot as anything coming out of Kitsune, Ed Banger or Relish right now. Kicking things off then, they’ll be playing an extended 3 Hour Set, before welcoming another major Ed Banger artist from across the pond in the shape of SebastiAn. Having made his name with the epic ‘Ross Ross Ross’ EP in 2006, the electro star has since remixed Daft Punk, Cut Copy, Uffie, Annie and Kelis and has even supported Daft Punk on their worldwide tour!! To say he’s one of the brightest new talents from Europe in recent years would be one major understatement. This guy is MASSIVE and will only get bigger!! Taking the riotous sounds to a more techno groove will be Riton late on. Riton is a weekly resident for the all-singing-all-dancing We Love Sundays at Space, and he’s big buddies with 2manydjs, who he regularly tours the world with. He’ll be making his together debut, as will our next guest – Miss Odd Kidd who’ll be singing live, backed up by her DJ, Dekker. With similarities to Uffie and Lady Sovreign even, the London lass is very much her own lady with a big future ahead. ‘Wine, Weed and Wankers’ is a classic example of her cheeky lyrical tounge and she’s also working with the Streetlife DJs at the mo, hence the hook up. Don’t miss it.
The blood-curdling beats continue in the Disco of the Dead room where a blockparty is 100% guaranteed. Together favourites The Nextmen return for another 4 decks mash-up feat. MC Wrec, as does UK Beatbox Champion 2006/07 Beardyman, Norweigan disco dude Todd Terje and hip hop heads Ill Commotion Collective. The Nextmen are one of our all time favourite DJs... from dancehall, reggae, d’n’b and hip hop, to soul, funk and 80s disco, Brad and Dom are serious party starters and are the very best at what they do. With the recent ‘This Was Supposed to be the Future’ LP, the Cambridge duo have also shown their class on the production front too, with this killer album. Next up is Beardyman, who has a beatboxer, remains in a whole league of his own. As a tirelessly innovative performer, Beardyman has always pushed the boundaries of what people expect from human beatbox, merging phenomenal beatbox skills with his left-field sense of humour and incredible musicality. After winning the well renowned Lyric Pad Beatbox Battle twice in 2004, he went on to win the title of London Champion and UK Runner up in the 2005 Championships, before becoming the UK Beatbox Champion 2006. He successfully defended his title a few days before his Together debut back in June and is still No.1 in the UK. His profile continues to soar after mesmerizing performances at Lovebox, Bloom and Bestival during the summer, and his summer gig at Turnmills still remains one of the most original and creative things we’ve ever seen. What will he do this time...? Norweign prince Todd Terje follows countrymen Lindstrom & Prins Thomas to the club as he joins the Scandanavian gang who are pushing their special blend of nu-disco grooves and space age sounds. Look out for his Together Podcast very soon - essential listening! London crew Ill Commotion Collective keep those hip hop basslines rolling early doors to the keen zombies on the floor.
Last year’s Together Halloween party was one of the best Together parties to date, with a club full of witches, vampires, werewolves, pumpkins, Freddie Krugers and blood-soaked folk generally scaring the shit out of us!! That trend is likely to continue this year as we’re pushing the Halloween Fancy Dress theme to the max again this Autumn!! Upstairs in the Trick or Treat room, the Together All-Stars are back after their summer break to host the madness, which includes the Grand Fancy Dress Final, with lots of killer prizes up for grabs! In addition to that, they’ll be FREE HAIRCUTS courtesy of hip Shoreditch salon Pimps & Pinups, FREE FACE PAINTING (so no excuses for not getting into the spirit of the night!!), plus FREE BLOOD PUNCH and FREE VODKA SLUGS. DJs include old friends The Scarlet Pimp Vs Mannequin, 10:4 Rubber Duckie and Nikolas Esselle. Elswhere, Together continues to embrace the full Horror of Halloween with more blood-thirsty glee as the normally chilled out Cinema Lounge turns into the Pumpkin Parlour for the night and the cosyness, will be replaced by the chilling scenes of some of the scariest movies ever made being played on the big screen!! Are you sitting comfortably…? No? Tough shit… it’s a Halloween party, what do you expect – Finding Nemo and a cup of cocoa?! Dress to Death, there’s no hiding in this month’s Halloween heaven… or should that be HELL?
