Good Times
Good Times is such a classic name it's not surprising it was utilised by the makers of a 70s American sitcom which featured, take note trivia fans, a very young Janet Jackson.
In that same decade disco band Chic released their classic single, the endlessly sampled 'Good Times', which forms the basis of the Sugarhill Gang's 'Rapper's Delight'.
The tune also inspired clubland's most decorated dj, Norman Jay MBE, to change the focus of his previously reggae-oriented sound system. Jay also began to mix records on two turntables, an innovation of hip hop godfathers Grandmaster Flash and DJ Kool Herc, whom Jay witnessed on a trip to New York.
Good Times' popularity at the Notting Hill Carnival, grew and is now one of the best loved institutions at Europe's biggest street festival. Don't forget to check out 'Good Times - the Film' a full length documentary chronicling Jay's contribution to club culture.
Good Times - the Party also appears at many other clubs around London, the UK and abroad.
