Great times for gorgeous people’ - that was Ricardo Urgell’s simple mission 35 years ago when he welcomed his first guests into the casually luxurious surroundings of his club Pacha, just across the bay from Ibiza Town.
The perennial preference of the beautiful at play, Pacha Ibiza has always been the Urgell family’s pride and passion, its success based on the same values it has always had – choice sounds, sultry surroundings and wall-to-wall smiles. It’s a basic formula that has worked incredibly well. Pacha is now probably the biggest club brand in the world with franchises in cities as far reaching as Buenos Aries and Budapest.
The club presents a diverse musical landscape, a multi-arena experience that remains true to the Balearic experience, offering a journey from Latin to lounge, via jazz, funk, ambient and, of course, that distinct house sound. Its constantly expanding catacomb of rooms and terraces has given it the scope to always remain one-step ahead musically. When the recent trend for diversity sparked on the island, Pacha had already moved on, pioneering R&B and hip-hop in the Global Room with the likes of Trevor Nelson and Jade Jagger’s Jezebel brand.
Pacha has demonstrated time and time again, that the club is king, and this year more than most sees some major changes. With Pete Tong and Jade Jagger stepping out of the hugely successful Friday nights Pure Pacha, the club is pulling out all the stops to make sure that it stays ahead of the competition. Expect some incredible line-ups including the likes of Faithless and if rumours are to be believed Macy Gray.
Thursday sees the launch of David and Cathy Guetta’s first weekly F*** Me I’m Famous residency, and the rest of the program is pretty much business as usual.
