The Middlesbrough Empire

Built in 1897 as a music hall The Middlesbrough Empire has played host to a variety of performers from Charlie Chaplin to Paul Oakenfold to the Scissor Sisters.

Barry Faulkner bought the venue 1991 and has since transformed the derelict building into one of the countries finest venues.

The Empire now retains all it's former glory with three floors dedicated to the stylish enjoyment of music.

The Empire has a 70m sq stage with extensive stage wings for production/mixing points, a full size cinema screen above the stage for projections and/or video mixing. Two original private boxes have been retained as well as a standing balcony all the way round for stage viewing.

Who's played? Since we opened in 1991 most of the worlds finest djs and producers have performed and indeed still do.

Paul Oakenfold, Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez, Erick Morillo, Tiesto, Paul van Dyk to name but a few.

MTV, Clubavision etc have all filmed at the club and several music videos have shot here too.

Bands like The Darkness, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, Kasabian, Scissor Sisters, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Goldie Lookin' Chain, Bloc Party, and Dead 60s to name but a few have all performed here in the last few years.
