Ministry of Sound fight for their life - Again

Last year London clubbing institute Ministry of Sound celebrated their 20th birthday.  But at the same time they fought a battle with Southwark Council to stop a 41 story block of luxury flats being built opposite the club, which would almost certainly have meant the end for the iconic venue.  Over 26,000 people signed a petition to stop the development, including some of the worlds biggest DJs & musicians.  Southwark Council’s Planning Committee rejected the plans in November due to the development breaching policy on several points. These included not providing social housing, a lack of public amenity, excessive height and overcrowding, and of course effect of the noise from Ministry of Sound for the residents of the new block.

Simon Cowell's dastardly plan to destroy dance music

Things were really looking up so far this year for the US market, the Swedish House Mafia sold out Madison Square Garden, Avicii proved the caring sharing side of the EDM scene with his Million Dollar Charity Tour, and BPM Festival dominated in Mexico with underground acts finally hitting paydirt without selling out to commercialism. Well batten down the hatches as the dance music scene has attracted just a little bit too much attention from the corporates and is about to face it's biggest threat yet. And it comes in the shape of a podgy old Brit with badly fitting trousers.

Space, Sankeys, Berghain & Fabric have all won the coveted ‘Worlds Best Club’ in DJ Mags annual ‘Top 100 Clubs’ Poll.  This is the 5th year of the voting and it’s no less clear cut.  Will one of these win again or will one of the others who have been close before, pip them to the post like; Barcelona's cavernous Fabrik, Brazil's huge outdoor venues Green Valley or Warung, Ibiza legendary clubs Amnesia or Pacha, London institute Ministry of Sound, Singapore's 21 year old Zouk, Greece's outdoor heaven Cavo Paradiso, Tokyo's high tech Womb or Berlin's notorious Watergate who've all featured in the top 10 before, many in all 4 polls.  Or will it be somewhere different altogether…?
